“The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well.”

What to expect

Step 1. Start you enquiry by completing this brief questionnaire and Dr Ffion Carlin will be in touch within 7 days.

Step 2. After our connection call, if we decide to work together you will be invited to book your first appointment.

*Payment needs to be received 48hrs before the first session or the session will be cancelled.

Step 3. Once the first session is arranged, I will email you a more extensive questionnaire to complete and send back to me before the session. The questions will cover aspects of your health (past and present), habits, routine, your relationships, work, what’s most important to you and what outcome you are hoping for through our work together.

Step 4. The first session is a 90-minute session when we will have time to talk through your answers to the questions.

Step 5. All other sessions are 50-60-minute sessions. I often recommend activities for you to do at home between the sessions to build upon the in-session work.

Step 6. The aim of EmbodiedMedicine coaching is to re-connect you with how your body feels and what it needs, shed light on behaviours and habits that could be disconnecting and holding you back from your health and life goals, giving you space to reflect and generate ideas for action, tools and an enhanced understanding of your body you can use outside the coaching room long after our sessions end.

* Payment must be received 24hrs before the session or the session will not go ahead.

* Our sessions can be paid for upfront or in instalments.

* Late cancellations will be charged (full price if less than 48hrs notice is given). Excluding occasional unforeseen emergencies and illness which can be discussed on a case by case basis.

* You do not need to have a formal diagnosis for us to work together. The focus will be on your symptoms and how they are impacting you.

* Stand alone or one-off appointments are only available on request to known clients who have completed a 4-month programme.

* Have patience. Issues you have been dealing with for a long time won’t just disappear overnight. We can usually expect that the longer the problem has been there (meaning you have probably already tried a few different things to treat your symptoms), the slower the progress. But progress is progress. You may not notice day to day change, more like week to week or month to month change. The tortoise still wins the race.

* Don’t expect the work we do together to be easy. There are no quick fixes here. Leaning into the hard things will feel uncomfortable, but it’s where we need to go to heal from the roots up.

* I don’t want you to be my client forever- my hope is that you will walk away from our work together with the tools and awareness to take control of your own health without my ongoing support.

TECHNIQUES I USE IN MY PRACTICE

  • I draw upon nearly 20 years of varied clinical practice working across specialties such as internal medicine managing acute and chronic health problems, emergency medicine, cancer and palliative care, infectious diseases, integrative and functional medicine.

  • Personal experience of chronic illness and burnout.

  • Somatic techniques- movement, breath-work, nervous system regulation.

  • Transformational life coaching.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)- reviewing where you are compared to where you want or expect to be; challenging difficult thoughts and feelings; committing to action that will move you in the direction towards your goals.

  • Person-focused approach (you are the expert of you).

  • Trauma-informed methods.

THE CHALLENGES

Working together in this way won’t be easy. There are no shortcuts. The quick fixes work for a while but they run out eventually. You might have the knowledge about what you need to do, but delivering an action based on that knowledge consistently day after day is hard, and can feel even harder if you don’t feel the benefits immediately, I get that and i’m not here to tell you how easy these changes are to make. Letting go of old habits is hard. It takes time and perseverance, but you can do it.

Our bodies are clever and amazing things and work hard every minute to keep us going. It’s just that sometimes when the body is working hard to keep us safe the wires get twisted, something gets unplugged, or it relies upon emergency procedures long after the emergency has passed. Sometimes the mind talks negatively to the body and this can have an impact too. We are bombarded with so much information and disinformation, it is difficult to know what advice to follow. I think the answer lies in you. Sometimes we need a system re-boot in safety mode to really understand where the wires got crossed in the first place.

There are no magic pills at EmbodiedMedicine. We will go back to the basics of what your body needs to work at its best.

Sometimes we find problems from the past buried in the body. Digging for those problems can bring up difficult memories and this can happen unexpectedly. I will always be guided by how you want to lead each session and check that you are comfortable and feel safe.

Your body is powerful, you are powerful, you have the power to heal yourself. Let’s tap into it.
