Frequently asked questions

  • I offer a minimum of 8 sessions over 4 months.

8 sessions over the 4-month timescale allows enough time to address several issues, apply some changes and review the benefits.

    Sometimes more sessions are needed.

  • Check out my prices here.

A bundle of 8 sessions is £720 (£90 per session)

Available to pay in monthly instalments (10% discount if paid upfront).

  • I don’t offer blood tests via Embodied Medicine.

If you have had blood tests elsewhere and would like to discuss the results we can talk about what they might mean for you and offer advice on next steps.

Occasionally I might recommend some blood tests that could be useful to arrange via your GP, or alternatively through a private provider.

  • Though I admittedly have been following a mostly plant-based diet for nearly 15years, I don’t think that this is the right way for everyone. I do believe that from the evidence we have so far, following a predominantly plant-based diet has been found to have the most long-term health benefits.

My approach to any particular diet or nutritional advice is about finding what works for you and one that is sustainable. I do not support one fixed approach for everyone.

  • Short answer: No.

I don’t believe weight is a very good measure of overall health and wellbeing. Body-Mass-Index (BMI) calculations are very flawed and “dieting” for the sole purpose of losing weight doesn’t work long term. Most people regain the weight they lose after dieting and our bodies are wired to do this for survival.

Being someone who has recovered from a debilitating eating disorder and having recently supported people suffering from eating disorders as an internet chat support volunteer for the UK eating disorder charity BEAT, I don’t advocate for hyper-focusing on weight loss as a goal for good health. I won’t promote calorie counting either.

What we could work on together is the relationship you have with food and eating, how food makes you feel (physically and emotionally), listening to the body and recognising hunger cues, nutritional education (important nutrients, vital components of a healthy diet (without diet-ing), evidence for modified approaches to nutrition for different chronic health conditions, supplements etc.).

It is quite possible that weight changes could happen naturally as part of the process of working together. If this does happen I would recommend allowing it to happen naturally trusting the body knows what it needs.

All of us are made differently and have different needs. Beyond the essentials the body needs to keep going on a cellular level, we are learning more and more about how a personalised approach to nutrition works better.

*For people suffering from a diagnosed eating disorder, or who think they have an eating disorder, I would recommend seeking help from professional eating disorder services.

  • Coaching- usually focuses on the present, about working towards meaningful change which can often materialise as goal-setting or behaviour change when considering a particular problem or stumbling block. The role of the coach is to skilfully guide and support the coachee to identify their needs and find solutions that work for them.

Therapy- there are numerous (too many to count) therapeutic techniques and all different in their approach. Therapy tends to dig deeper into the roots of a current problem or behaviour, often leading naturally to a remembering of past events as a way of understanding behaviour in the present.

Some forms of therapy (like CBT, DBT),

The EmbodiedMedicine method is a form of “integrative therapeutic coaching”. This means that I incorporate some therapeutic techniques into my coaching sessions. It is not a replacement for formal therapy.

  • If you’d like to work together, but can’t quite afford the prices listed, it could be worth getting in touch as I am able to take a small number of clients at subsidised rates. If there are no subsidised places available at the moment, you can always opt to be placed on a waiting list until a space becomes available.

Get in touch via the “contact” tab.

Alternatively, you can access my blog and newsletter for free. I discuss evidence for health interventions, unpick health research, review and recommend books as well as small lifestyle change hints and tips.

Sign-up for the newsletter at the bottom of this page.

  • I intentionally don’t offer one off coaching sessions to new clients.

The exception being If someone I have worked with previously wants to book a one-off follow-up session as a way to check in and remain accountable.

  • No. Please don’t stop any existing medication you are taking.

Before our first session I will ask you about existing health problems and medication but the decision on whether to stop this medication or not should be discussed with the specialist who prescribes the medication.

It is expected that over the time we work together your need for a medication may reduce significantly, but not everyone will be able to stop taking this completely.

The Embodied Medicine method is a way of enhancing, and reducing the reliance on medical intervention, but not a replacement for existing medical treatment.
